The final cordwood workshop of the year took place on August 10, 2013 at the Kinstone Chapel near Fountain City, Wisconsin. This was a one day workshop and featured an hour of classroom and three (2 hour) mortaring sessions. It was a rousing success. Good people, good venue, good results. We also had the great good fortune to have a master thatcher on site. William Cahill, who was sponsored by the Smithsonian to thatch the Jamestown colony buildings, is also doing the Chapel.
Here some photos of the good and dear folks and the progress made.

How do you know if your mortar beads are correct? Why with a M-I-M stick of course (mortar-insulation-mortar).

Tuck pointing with a paint brush. Smooths all the little fingerprints and lines. Taught to us by painter David Morgenstern. Thanks David!

“I “heart” cordwood”; a piece of center rot cedar, cleaned out, with a chainsaw came out “looking for love…”
