WORKSHOPS

2024 Cordwood

             Workshop Schedule

  January 2024

Two cordwood workshops are being offered in August of 2024 in Grand Marias, Minnesota

The workshops will be posted here and on the Cordwood Construction FB Group Page.   https://www.facebook.com/groups/cordwoodconstruction

Cordwood Construction Resources (Richard & Becky Flatau) have retired from teaching cordwood workshops.  We will continue to maintain our cordwood websites, social media pages, writing, consultation, and collaborations.  We are grateful to have helped lots of wonderful people build their cordwood projects over the past 45 years. We will add workshop offerings to this site as successful owner/builders commit to start teaching (hint, hint).

What to do if you can’t attend a workshop?

If you desire to take a workshop, but can’t find one, here are some suggestions.

  1. Watch the Cordwood Workshop DVD. This video was filmed at several workshops and offers high-quality instruction on how to successfully build a cordwood home, cabin, or cottage.  From choosing wood, drying wood, and calculating amounts of materials, to actual wall building footage, mortar mix choices, and dozens of photos of outstanding, best practice builds.  Then you can build a practice building to use your knowledge.

Watching the Cordwood Workshop DVD is like having a front-row seat at a workshop (available in the Online Bookstore on this site). The video is an hour long and was filmed at workshops we taught in Wisconsin. There is an incredible amount of information on Best Practices, foundations & framing options, the five mortar mixes,  how to build a wall, tuckpointing tips,  plumbing, electrical, insulation, exploding logs, bottle bricks, and how to make a wall look good.  There is also inspirational drone footage of several cordwood buildings.  It is available as a DVD and an immediate digital download.  https://cordwoodconstruction.org/product/cordwood-workshop-video-dvd

  2. Build a practice building. The construction of a doghouse, cathouse, shed, sauna, or playhouse will give you a chance to fine-tune the skills you gathered from the video.
  3. Help someone else with their cordwood project.
