ABOUT RICHARD AND BECKY FLATAU

Richard Flatau built his mortgage-free cordwood home four decades ago in northern Wisconsin. Since then, as Director of Cordwood Construction Resources, LLC, he has written books, taught workshops, made videos, and consulted with owner/builders about how to use best practices and planet-friendly choices in their quest to build a natural home.

Richard and his wife Becky worked as teachers in the Merrill Public Schools for 30 years and are involved in community organizations. They are extremely proud of having coordinated the building of the Cordwood Education Center Classroom at the Merrill School Forest. The beautiful and eco-friendly White Earth Reservation Cordwood home was a successful collaboration with the Ojibwa Tribal Council, the local community development corporation and Cordwood Construction Resources. In addition, the Kinstone Cordwood Chapel and Entrance Center was a life-enhancing cooperative effort with the permaculture community and Kinstone Academy.

Cordwood Conference Papers 2015, Cordwood Construction: Best Practices (2012)  Cordwood Shed Plans (2010) and Cordwood Cabin: Best Practices (2009) are a few of the many books available from his online bookstore.
